Thai Doctors Successfully Treat Coronavirus with Antiviral Drug Cocktail

Doctors in Thailand say they may have found success in treating the deadly Wuhan coronavirus.

Thailand’s Health Ministry announced on Sunday that a 71-year-old Chinese woman who was infected with the 2019-nCoV coronavirus has exhibited a dramatic improvement just 48 hours after being treated with a cocktail of antiviral medications used for influenza and HIV.

Dr. Kriengsak Attipornwanich told reporters during the ministry’s daily news briefing, “The lab result of positive on the coronavirus turned negative in 48 hours.”

“From being exhausted before, [the patient] could sit up in bed 12 hours later,” AFP reported.

The doctors combined the anti-flu drug oseltamivir with lopinavir and ritonavir, anti-virals used to treat HIV, Kriengsak said.

He added that Thailand’s Health Ministry is waiting for the results of the latest research to replicate the findings.
